Meet The Team

Janet Kay, Matron

Janet joined the team at Springhill Home in May 2000 as a Deputy Matron, and was promoted to Matron in November 2007.

Prior to that, Janet trained as a nurse with Ayrshire and Arran Health Board during the late seventies. On completion of her training she accompanied her husband in his job, which took them both around UK and Europe, where she continued to develop her nursing skills, mainly in working with Care of the Elderly.

On returning to Scotland in 1994 to set down her roots, Janet worked in Care Homes in Glasgow and North Ayrshire as a Senior Sister, with responsibility for the running of 30 bed units.

In early 1998 Janet qualified as an assessor for SVQ and then gained the Internal Verifier qualification later in the year. She gained her SVQ level 4 Management Award in 2005 and has completed various courses specifically designed to support Care of the Elderly while employed at Springhill Home. Janet believes in Life Long Learning and is keen to encourage all levels of staff to take part in training or courses to improve their skills and abilities.

Helen McHarg, Deputy Matron

Helen has worked as Deputy Matron at Springhill Home since 2007.

She achieved a Diploma of Higher Education (Nursing) in 1996 from the University of Glasgow and completed the practical aspects of her training with Ayrshire and Arran Health Board.

On graduating, Helen commenced work as a Staff Nurse in Care of the Elderly, Young Chronic Sick and Young Adults with Learning Difficulties and progressed to the post of Nursing Sister where she remained for 5 years.

She then held the post of Deputy Matron, caring for Frail Elderly and Dementia, for a further 4 years before attaining a position as Care Home Manager with responsibility for 50 residents and approximately 70 staff. She held this position for approximately 20 months but found that she missed having practical care input and regular resident interaction and this prompted her move to Springhill Home as Deputy Matron.

Helen has gained both her SVQ Level 4 Management Award and the Key Trainer’s certificate in Moving and Handling; and has completed various other courses relevant to Care of the Elderly, both practical and theory.

Bridget Duffy, Deputy Matron

Bridget has worked as Deputy Matron at Springhill Home since 2007.

She undertook her nursing training at Kilmarnock Infirmary, qualifying in 1979.  She then moved around with her husband, who worked with the RAF and MOD Police, and held various nursing posts mostly involving Care of the Elderly.

Bridget held the posts of General Manager at a Nursing Home in Helensburgh and Nursing Manager in a Kilmarnock Nursing Home before joining the team at Springhill Home as Deputy Matron.

Her qualifications include RGN, EN(G), Managers Award , SVQ Assessor, and Preceptorship for Student and overseas Nurses.
